Who we treat
Foundation Centrum ’45 treats people suffering from psychotrauma complaints that are the result of persecution, war and (job-related) violence. During the process of treatment we also involve family members. After all, they too experience – to a greater or lesser degree – the consequences of the psychotrauma. Sometimes they also receive treatment.
People who register for treatment often suffer from depression, anxiety, or have trouble dealing with aggression, have relational problems, show symptoms of substance dependence or have physical complaints. At this moment we distinguish these groups:
• Victims Second World War/older people with traumatic experiences;
• Veterans;
• Post-war Generation;
• Adult Refugees;
• Children, Young People and Families;
• Traumatised Others, people traumatised whilst carrying out their profession, for
instance, or in the wake of disasters, riots, etc.
Victims Second World War
This group comprises members of the resistance, victims of persecution and civilian war casualties who suffer from psychological complaints resulting from their traumatic experiences during the German occupation of the Netherlands or the Japanese occupation of the Netherlands East Indies. Their partners or other members of their family may also become involved in the treatment, even if they themselves do not belong to any of the categories mentioned here.

Veterans
Veterans receiving treatment at Foundation Centrum ’45 were exposed to traumatic experiences while serving in the Dutch forces, during acts of war or while on international (peace-keeping) missions.

Post-War Generation
On the whole, this includes people who have not been exposed to organised violence themselves yet who have psychological complaints that are connected with the traumatization of one or both parent(s) that they may not have come to terms with. The parents of these adults were themselves war victims or had been members of the resistance.

Adult Refugees
This group consists of adult refugees and asylum seekers who suffer from psychological complaints that are the result of shocking events endured in their country of origin.
There are separate groups for refugees who have resided in the Netherlands for a considerable time, have already built up a social network for themselves and who speak Dutch. For clients who do not speak Dutch we have treatments on offer in which interpreters are brought in.

Children, Young People and Families
This comprises children and young people who suffer from psychological complaints and sometimes a disturbed (personality) development due to the shocking experiences they have endured - alone or with their parents. Foundation Centrum ’45 offers treatment to the individual members of a family but also to families as a whole.

Others who were traumatised whilst carrying out their profession, or during disasters, riots, attacks or the taking of hostages
This denotes people who have (repeatedly) had shocking experiences whilst carrying out their profession, or have become involved in acts of war abroad, and have come out of these experiences with a complex psychotrauma. They include ambulance staff, engine drivers, police officers, fire-fighters, journalists or employees of relief organizations.
We also offer treatment to people who have been experiencing long-term psychological complaints in the wake of disasters, riots, attacks or the taking of hostages.
